Name: Kiryu Kazuma
Canon: Ryu Ga Gotoku / Yakuza
Canon point: post Y7
Age: 50

History: Kiryu @ Yakuzawiki

Personality:
KIND - There are literally hundreds of substories from the games that mostly just involve Kiryu seeing someone in need of help and stopping whatever high drama nonsense he's doing to step in and offer his assistance. A quote from him from canon (Y4): "It took me forty years to realize this. But for guys like us... our lives aren't really our own. There's always someone new to help. Someone we need to protect. These past few years, I fought that fate with all I had. But I'm done fighting. It's time I accept the hand I was dealt. Too many people depend on us. Their dreams depend on us." Even more than that, though, some of his favorite things to do is be with and help children. He started and ran an orphanage for kids who'd had it rough and it was very clear that while he wasn't perfect, and he's made his mistakes, he always tried to do his very best for all of the kids under his care and he loves them dearly.
HONORABLE - It's hard to give an example on this one because mostly it's a non-example: he keeps his word, he doesn't betray people, he's loyal to a fault (literally to a fault), and he cares about the ideals of the yakuza lifestyle even as a civilian, both for himself and in making sure others observe the rules; one of the first complaints he had to someone who came after him was that they were hassling civilians. In a criminal underworld where backstabbing is the norm, he... doesn't. Ever.
SELFLESS - Kiryu is a self-sacrificer, through and through. Starting off with taking the rap for the murder committed by his adopted brother, all the way through giving up everything he's ever loved and worked for to protect the people he loves. Even in small ways, he puts other people before himself such as when he dressed up in the Ono Michio costume to help convince a young girl to accept medical treatment; he hates the costume, his pride definitely takes a hit, and he'd said he'd never wear it again, but that was more important than any of those things, even though he'd never met the girl before.

RECKLESS - Kiryu leaps before he looks, especially when he's under pressure. He will sometimes listen to friends and allies, but just as often he flies off by himself to deal with something with very mixed results. When his daughter was kidnapped? He ran off after her, despite suffering a stab wound at the time. When he was named chairman of the Tojo Clan? OUT THE DOOR WITHIN A DAY and he left it in the hands of someone he'd known for literal days because the guy was a friend to his adoptive father.
STUBBORN - Once he's made a decision on something, there is NO turning him around. It happened when he decided to be 'dead' and his friend Date tried to convince him, it's happened multiple times when he wants to do something incredibly bonkers as part of his plan; there's no convincing him it's too dangerous. He's going to do it. He's not close minded, in the LEAST, but once he's set his course, he is full speed ahead.
AGGRESSIVE - Kiryu is a nice man but he 100% will throw down at the drop of a hat. He has a temper when he sees people being shitty and he'll even antagonize folks into attacking him over their original target. I don't have a specific point because it's basically his modus operandai.

Powers/Abilities: Kiryu comes from a magical realism canon, where people can do supernatural things and it's just kind of... a thing that happens. While there's no name or title for what he is or what he can do, he is confirmed WoG/word-of-anyone-with-eyes-in-canon-and-out' superhuman, even above most of those who'd be seen as great warriors: stronger, faster, more resilient, and able to control 'heat', an energy that is tied to his spirit/soul. We know that according to a master martial artist, he has enough of that energy even while in 'downtime' to be visible/felt by someone with that sense on the street, that he has stupid amount of natural aptitude when it comes to learning physical arts (martial and otherwise!) as shown both by his fighting prowess as well as the fact that he can and has gone up against like a ridiculous world darts champion (Paul Lim) and canonically beat them.

He can use Heat in other ways as well, such as boosting the speed of a car and enabling it to lift off of the asphalt to ride on two wheels or through guns to make Absolutely Ridiculous shots. We know he can make himself temporarily invulnerable with it (though it's proven that he's unnaturally resilient even without all that thank you Y6 pipe-to-the-head beatings). He's also (in typical video game protag fashion) able to carry around more items than he appears to have pockets for and he can heal from all but the gravest of injuries by eating something or drinking energy drinks. He also sometimes just heals because it is narratively appropriate/because he needs to (lookin' at you shoulder bullet in Yakuza 0) and has a stupid amount of stamina. As in: he challenged 100 armed yakuza to a duel at the same time and won. Handily. Not to mention going through a giant golden version of Osaka castle full of ninja and armed guards with a stab wound, punching out not just one but two tigers, and making it out. Also, he's hand-to-hand fought a shark and literally side-tossed a whole-ass raging bull. HE STROMF.

TL;DR - he fight real good and he's hard as hell to put down. Think Yakuza!Captain America.

Soft skills include parenting, cooking, business and sports management (real estate, hostess club, baseball team), hosting, spearfishing, being a mascot, karaoke, taxi driving, pocket circuit racing, and the care and ownership of at least one chicken.

Regret: abdicating as Fourth Chairman of the Tojo Clan after Y1

Inventory: his cellphone and a charger, a dragon binding (armor), his lighter, his watch, his suit, his shoes, his belt
